The plant occupies 271,648 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and is located in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Power Transformers

Prolec GE Brazil designs, manufactures and tests a complete line of large and extra large power liquid-filled transformers top rated from 60 MVA to 1000 MVA, up to 800 kV.

Our modern transformer manufacturing operations utilize sophisticated computer-controlled equipment and test systems, complemented by a well-trained, experienced work force to produce high quality power transformers that meet stringent customer demands.

The first 230 kV Power Transformer was designed and munufactured, opening the ways for larger equipements and higher power manufacturing.

2001
Coemsa Ansaldo becomes Alstom

Alstom, the french multinational manufacturer, acquired the plant from Coemsa Ansaldo.  

2004
Areva T&D starts in Brazil
Areva plant in Brazil, 2004

Areva, a major international player in the nuclear energy market from France, acquired Alstom's transmission and distribution activities, which became Areva T&D.

First 800 kV Power Transformer
First

The first 800 kV Power Transformer was designed and munufactured, opening the ways for even larger equipements and higher power manufacturing. 

2010
New Alstom aquisition
Alstom plant in Brazil

Areva sold the plant back to Alstom and Schneider Electric, a french multinational company that specializes in digital automation and energy management.   

2011
Testing lab modernization
New HVDC Alstom testing lab

The testing laboratory was expanded in over 24,500 sq. ft. to modernize and prepare the installations for future projects.

2015
GE buys Alstom
GE Phase-shifter transformer in the brazilian plant testing lab

General Eletrics (GE), a world leader in different sectors of industry and services,  acquired Alstom’s power and grid businesses. The completion of the transaction followed the regulatory approval of the deal in over 20 countries and regions. It was GE’s largest-ever industrial acquisition at the time.

Prolec GE joint venture takes place

Prolec GE, the  joint venture between Xignux Mexican consortium with significant participation in the electricity, infrastructure and food sectors and General Electric (GE), already in place in different locations since 1995, is incorporated in Brazil.
